Controls Engineering

Ahaus serves the controls needs of its customers with a dedicated in-house team of three full-time controls engineers and an equal number of electricians. During a project’s design phase, the controls engineers work closely with the mechanical design engineers offering their perspective and technical insight to yield a more efficient or robust machine, tool or fixture solution.

Among the capabilities of the controls engineering group are:

  • Electrical control system design including component selection (i.e., PLCs, drives, displays, power supplies, etc.), panel layouts, wiring diagrams and bills of materials
  • Programming and debugging PLCs and control systems of various sources, including Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Automation Direct and others
  • Pneumatic control system design including air logic circuits
  • Hydraulic control system and power unit design
  • Full machine programming, including PLC, HMI, multi-axis servo motor/drive and robot (Fanuc, ABB, Motoman, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting any of the electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems commonly used in the industry today
  • Appropriate safety circuit design to meet all required safety regulations/codes

Typically, one controls engineer is fully responsible for a project’s system design, programming and debugging. On larger systems, multiple controls engineers will work as a team to meet project timing requirements. A complete set of final designs, wire schematics, bill of materials, pneumatic/hydraulic circuits are documented PLC/servo/robot programs will be provided in the customer-requested format.
